"Youngblood" serves as the second single from 5 Seconds of Summer's upcoming third album. The titular track is vastly different from any of their previous releases but in this case that is not a bad thing. Previously 5SOS went for a more punk rock bordering on pop sound. With this track you can hear the growth in their sound, now going for a more pop or even alternative rock sound.

The song starts out slow and has listeners believe we are in for a pop ballad. This all changes once the chorus hits and there is a sudden explosion of drums. The slightly strained vocals paired with the fast paced chorus creates a tension and frustration which works so well with the themes in the lyrics.

The lyrics sing about a relationship turned sour and the frustration that comes with trying to make this relationship work. You can really see the growth in the songwriting compared to their previous albums.

5 Seconds of Summer have always been trying to crossover to the more mature audience and I think this song is a great step in that direction. With a different sound, improved vocal abilities and better lyrics I am keen to hear the rest of the third album.

5SOS's third album will be out the 22 June 2018
