Despite the name, the only thing happy about this song is the pop beat. Happier is about a couple who no longer wants to be in their relationship. Bastille frontman, Dan Smith decides that his partner will be happier if they were to break up.

The EDM song is different to Bastille's usual alternative rock/ indie pop sounds which is to be expected as they worked with American producer, Marshmello. Happier is somewhat contradictory with an uplifting beat and a more dejected subject matter. This doesn't pay off as well as one would like. Sure, you have a great summer anthem but Bastille could have made something beautiful had they opted to slow down the track.
Dan Smith's vocals are great especially in the build up to the last beat drop. There is also a bit of electric guitar there which shows another direction the song could have gone in if they chose to forego the generic dance route.
Happier isn't a bad song but it lacks originality in the beat and therefore, it is not the most memorable. The band could salvage the situation by releasing an acoustic version but for now its just a catchy pop/dance track.
