Billie Eilish releases haunting new single with Khalid

Once again the 16-year-old shows maturity beyond her years with Lovely, the first single off her upcoming album.

Lovely is a slow somewhat depressing song featuring mainly piano and violins. Eilish's voice is well complimented by Khalid's unique tone and the harmonies particularly in the first verse are stunning. The violins build up to the chorus and then goes softer with just piano and Eilish's voice to create a rather chilling chorus.

What really makes this song interesting is the lyrics. I interpreted it as someone trying to get over depression but with these lyrics you could even apply it to a really toxic relationship. Lines such as "Heart made of glass, mind made of stone" really stood out to me as well.

"Need a place to hide, but I can't find one near Wanna feel alive, outside I can fight my fear"

While Billie Eilish and Khalid are classified as pop artists this song is very similar to that of Birdy and therefore, would be more suited to the indie genre. It will be very interesting to see in which direction Eilish will take her new album.
